The Secret

Most writers start in the wrong place.

Character sheets start with the facts — name, age, hair color, occupation. Those are labels. They tell you what a character looks like on a driver’s license. They don’t tell you who the character is when the lights go out and nobody’s watching.

Start with Section 7: Core Wound. Your character’s deepest hurt is the engine of your entire story. The wound isn’t what happened to them — it’s what they believe about themselves because of what happened. Once you nail that, their goals make sense, their flaws feel earned, and their arc has somewhere to go.

The template includes a recommended fill-in order that starts with the wound, builds the psychology, maps the arc, then fills in the facts. It’s faster than starting from Section 1 and produces a character who actually drives plot instead of just existing in it.

What Changes

A character sheet tells you facts.
A character bible tells you what they’ll do next.

When the template is filled in, you stop asking “what would my character do?” The answer is already in the sections you wrote.

Plotting gets faster
You know every major decision your character will make — not because you planned the plot first, but because the character bible predicted it. Core wound plus psychology plus secrets equals an arc that writes itself.
Dialogue gets specific
Section 13 (Voice & Speech Patterns) gives you verbal tics, sentence structure, what they say vs. what they mean. Your characters stop sounding like you and start sounding like themselves.
Revision gets easier
When something feels off in a scene, the character bible tells you why. The fix isn’t rewriting dialogue — it’s realigning behavior with the psychology you already defined.

The framework is free.
The character is yours.
